Freßnapf launches own brands
The Freßnapf franchise organization, which operates well over 160
stores in Germany and Austria, launched the first of about 150 planned own
brands at the beginning of March. These consisted of four new types of cat
litter under the name of "MultiFit". For the introduction of these
own-brand products Freßnapf is planning a comprehensive package of
in-store promotional measures. These in-clude a testing station for cat
litter, a competition, new displays and a special bro-chure.
Internet boom for Dupla
The Internet pages of Dupla, the manufacturer of products for aquarists,
are extremely popular. The com-pany claims to have been accessed almost
500 000 times within the space of one year. Strikingly, the total number
of times accessed in the first month (November 1996) came to 29,812, then
during the year under consi-deration more than doubled to 68,488 in October
1997. Particularly lively interest was shown in the pages in English. Most
of these Internet users came from the USA, followed by Germany and Italy.
Spillers Petfood bought by Nestlé
The Nestlé concern has bought manufacturers Spil-lers Petfood,
a subsidiary of the British Dalgety group of companies, for approximately
DM 2 100 Mio. Trade insiders estimate that the acquisition of Spillers will
give Nestlé a 20 per cent share of the market in Europe.
International seminar
The Solingen-based ZDS, or central college of the German confectionery
industry, will be organizing an International Petfood Seminar from 14 to
16 September. Noted speakers from all over the world will be reporting on
different types of petfood technology and current trends in the sector.
Animalia in October
The leading Swiss trade fair for the pet sector, Animalia, will be held
for the fourth time from 24 to 25 October in Beaulieu.
Record participation at Interzoo
More than 800 direct exhi-bitors from all over the world are expected
at Interzoo '98. This means the Nuremberg fair is in a position to em-phasize
its impressive status within the international pet industry in 1998, its
25th anniversary year. Interzoo will be held in Halls 1 to 7. From the end
of March there will be an exhibitors' data-base of detailed product information
available on the Internet at http://www.
interzoo.com. At the fair itself an electronic information system will
be ready for use by visitors at the information counters. This year again
